Visits of the
President of the Republic of Tajikistan to European countries and institutions
On June 6 - 11th,
2011 President
of Tajikistan Rahmon has made official visits to several European countries and
institutions.
European tour of
the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has started on June 6 th in Strasbourg by
visiting Council of Europe and meeting with Secretary General of the Council of
Europe Mr. Thorbjorn Jagland. During the meeting they discussed a number of
areas related to the promotion of democracy and the respect for human rights
and the rule of law.
At the result of
negotiations, President of Tajikistan, signed the Council of Europe Convention
on the Recognition of Higher Education of the Republic of Tajikistan in Europe.
Following the talks, a Joint Press Release of the President and Secretary
General of the Council of Europe was published.
On the same day,
President Emomali Rahmon paid a visit to the European Parliament. President of
Tajikistan has met with President of the European Parliament, Mr. Jerzy Buzek.
Then the head of state attended the opening session of European Parliament. A
series of meetings in the committees of the European Parliament took place and
President made a statement at a joint meeting of the Committee on Foreign
Affairs and Delegation for relations with Central Asian countries.
On June 7th
President of Tajikistan paid an official visit to Austria and met with Austrian
Federal President Dr. Heinz Fischer. In the presence of two Presidents an
Agreement on Avoidance of Double Taxation was signed and the Joint Declaration
of Presidents of Tajikistan and the Republic of Austria on further
strengthening bilateral relations has been adopted.
On June 8th
in Vienna Emomali Rahmon also has met with Federal Chancellor of Austria, Mr.
Werner Faymann. During the the issues of bilateral and multilateral
cooperation, water and energy problems and the situation in Afghanistan meeting
were discussed.
On the same day, an
official delegation of Tajikistan took part in the session of the World
Economic Forum in Vienna and made a speech there.
On June 8-10th,
2011 President of Tajikistan
Emomali Rahmon paid an official visit to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The
President has met with Grand Duke Henri, Prime Minister Mr. Jean-Claude
Juncker, President of the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg Mr. Laurent Mozar.
During the visit
the parties signed the Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation, Agreement
on air services. A Joint Statement of the President of Tajikistan and Prime
Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg on further strengthen bilateral
relations was adopted.
The President also visited the
Chamber of Commerce of Luxembourg and hold the talks with the Director General
of the House, Mr. Pierre Gramegna. At the end of negotiations in the presence
of President of Tajikistan, the ceremony of signing the Memorandum of
Cooperation between the Chamber of Commerce of Tajikistan and the Luxembourg
Chamber of Commerce took place. Then, in a building of Luxembourg Chamber of
Commerce a Joint Forum on economic cooperation and investment between the two
countries was held, where Emomali Rahmon took part and made a speech.
On June 10th,
Emomali Rahmon met with the President of the European Investment Bank Mr.
Phillipe Mejshtad. On the result of this meeting a Joint Press Release about
the visit of President Emomali Rahmon in the European Investment Bank was
published. In the presence of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan an
Agreement with the European Investment Bank and European Bank for
Reconstruction and Development was signed to allocate loans to Tajikistan in
the amount of 14 million euros and a grant of 7 million euros for restoration of electric power
distribution system with low and high voltage.
On June 10-llth,
2011 President of Tajikistan Rahmon
paid an official visit to Hungary.
During his visit,
Emomali Rahmon has met with Hungarian President Pal Schmidt. During the visit,
a number of bilateral agreements have been signed between countries:
- Joint Statement of the Republic of Tajikistan and
Hungary on further strengthen bilateral relations;
- Agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture of the
Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary on
cooperation in the field of agriculture;
- Agreement between
the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Health
of Hungary on cooperation in health;
- Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary.
The text of the
Agreement between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Hungary on the
Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments was also initialed.
